(Notice: This site now accepts Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), such as chemicals, pesticides, acids, oil-based paints, etc., on the third Saturday of each quarter from 11am-1pm only.  Collection dates in 2012 are: Sat. Apr. 21, July 21, and Oct. 20. Effective immediately SISWD Recycling Centers are no longer accepting any oil-based paints and stains except on designated HHW collection days.In addition, any unlabeled/unidentifiable items or latex paints will no longer be accepted.

Residents may drop off medical waste, such as syringes or unused medicines at any of three pharmacies in Scott County: Medical Arts Pharmacy, Hancock's Pharmacy, or Austin Pharmacy. Controlled and non-controlled medications may be dropped off at the Scott Co. Sheriff's Office 24 hours a day/7 days a week at no charge.

Household Recyclables

• Cardboard (please break down and flatten boxes
• Mixed paper, including paperboard
• Newspapers and magazines (please separate and keep dry)
• Computer paper
• #1 and #2 plastic bottles and jugs
• Glass
• Aluminum/steel cans

Problem Wastes

Electronics

• Computers and monitors (*limit two systems)
• Cellular phones
• TVs (limit 2)

Oil

• Oil, filters and antifreeze (limit 5 gallons motor oil)

Refrigerant Items

• Refrigerators
• A/C units
• Dehumidifiers

Used tires

• Auto and pickup tires (limit 10) $1.00 ea. off rim, $2.00 ea. on rim
• Semi truck tire (limit 4) $5.00 ea, off rim; $10.00 ea. on rim
• Front Tractor Tire: $3.00 ea (limit 2)
• Rear Tractor tire: $10.00 ea. (limit 2)
• Scrap metal

Batteries:

• Car batteries (must not be cracked and must have caps on cells)
• Rechargeable batteries: (ni-mh, ni-cd, ni-zn, li-ion, pb, button type batteries)
• No alkaline batteries accepted

Medical Waste:

Medical waste may be dropped off at Hancock Pharmacy, Medical Arts Pharmacy and Austin Pharmacy.  Unused narcotic medicines should be taken to the Scott County Sheriff's Department 24/7.

 

Household Hazardous Waste:

Special collection days are held the 2nd Saturday of each month from 11am-1pm.

Rules for Recycling

• No commercial materials accepted.

• Do not leave items after facility has closed.

• Please find an attendant if you have brought tires, appliances, TVs, or if you need help.

• Please remove all lids from containers and rinse thoroughly

• No latex-based paints accepted. 

• No propane or fuel tanks accepted.

• Please call ahead with any questions about items not listed

• Fees apply to some recyclables.

Reuse Center Shopping hours:

Mon-Fri 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. & Sat. 9 a.m. to noon

Please bring your unwanted but still good items to the Reuse Center.

Items such as

• Appliances

• Furniture (not upholstered)

• Electronics

• Toys

• Books

• Tools

• Home decor, etc.

-Items are free for the taking by people who need them, even if you don't.
-You might find something you need while you are there.
-The center provides an alternative way for items to be 'recycled.'
-Bring something in - take something out! Free!
-Items from the center are not to be resold through any means including yard sales, consignment shops, and/or Ebay as examples.
-Please do not abuse the generosity of others.
-Please do not bring junk or upholstered furniture.
